National Student Programs Manager

REPORTS TO:

Director of Education

BACKGROUND:

The National Constitution Center, located on Philadelphia's Independence Mall, is the first museum in the world dedicated to honoring and explaining the U.S. Constitution through more than 100 interactive and multi-media exhibits, artifacts and film. The Center also houses the Annenberg Center for Education and Outreach, which serves as a hub for national constitutional education, debates, teacher resources and as a home for visiting scholars and experts.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The National Student Programs Manager has overall responsibility for developing, implementing, and evaluating an innovative series of outreach programs that serve a diverse national school audience. The “Exchange” series is a semi-annual national program which will be designed to encourage high school age students to engage in a deliberation of current issues facing the United States. This is a grant-funded position through September 30, 2010 with longer-term funds pending.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Through a grant from the Annenberg Foundation, develop and implement an “Exchange” program series for a diverse national student audience.
  • Manage collaborations with outside organizations to assist in implement these and other educational outreach programs.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Education Team to advance the Center’s goal of becoming one of the nation’s premier nonprofit, nonpartisan civic education organizations.
  • Identify opportunities for the NCC to transform funded educational projects into self-supporting, ongoing programs through the development of new business plans
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, masters preferred in history, museum studies, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years experience as a social studies teacher or in museum programming
  • An understanding media production, with experience in an interest online technologies
  • Strong commitment to the Center’s civic education mission and philosophy
  • Knowledge of new media and distance-learning techniques highly desirable
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Team player and competent leader with good managerial skills
