Teaching American History Grants at the National Constitution Center

What is a Teaching American History Grant?

The federal government provides grant funding for schools, and school districts to provide professional development to teachers in United States history and techniques that improve their knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of our nation’s past.

Grant recipients have found that to increase effectiveness of the instruction, they should provide workshops in places where history has happened. The National Constitution Center in Historic Philadelphia is an excellent destination for your grant recipients!  The Center is located on Independence Mall, just footsteps from the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall.

How The National Constitution Center Can Help

The National Constitution Center’s Education staff is available to create a workshop that is customized to your specific grant topic.  Our staff is also available to ensure that you get the most out of your trip to Philadelphia—whether it’s walking in the footsteps of the Founders or recommending the best cheesesteak in town!

A Sample One-Day Visit Grant Package includes:

    • Phone consultation between the Center’s professional education staff and grantee administration to develop a customized workshop that is tailored to the group’s grant topic.
    • Admission to the National Constitution Center’s award-winning “Freedom Rising” live theatrical performance.
    • Admission and guided tour of permanent exhibit space, with particular emphasis on the elements of the exhibit that have been adapted into classroom resources.
    • Lunch in our Delegate’s Restaurant
    • 2-hour workshop with the Center’s professional education staff, focusing on teaching methodologies and the use of National Constitution Center authored materials, items in the permanent exhibition and the wide variety of resources on our newly redesigned education website.
    • Unlimited access to the Annenberg Education Center Teacher Resource Room
    • Each teacher receives an assortment of classroom ready materials to enhance instruction.
