    TRAVELING HISTORY PROGRAM TOPICS
Traveling history shows and workshops are designed to reach your students in a new format to get them excited about history and energize their civic voices! Choose a topic that best suits your students’ needs. We are always interested in your suggestions for additional topics.

Headed to the White House (Grades 6-12)
Can your students solemnly swear that they will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and to the best of their ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States? When the National Constitution Center comes to your school, they won’t have to wait until they turn 35 to run for president; their time is now! During this action-packed show, students will learn all about the presidency, with a focus on presidential elections and the functions of the executive branch. They will also learn about past presidents, historic elections, and presidential powers throughout history. Finally, students can elect their classmates to be the next president while learning what platforms are and watching some of the most famous campaigns ads of all time. So buckle up . . . because the road to the White House can be bumpy!

    Philadelphia Voter Registration Iniatiative Show
FREE to all Philadelphia High Schools!
Get your students involved with the excitement of the presidential election through a fast-paced, hands-on civic learning program brought directly into your school auditorium.  The interactive program engages students with the nuts and bolts of the presidential election process in an interactive, fun-filled format.  Students learn about political parties, candidates, and elections by developing platforms, creating campaign commercials, and voting in a mock election.  A special feature of the program permits eligible high school students to register to vote during the school assemblies where the program is presented.  During the program, students hear a special message from Mayor Michael Nutter and are provided with information about voting and voter registration.

The Philadelphia Youth Voter Initiative is a collaboration between The School District of Philadelphia City-wide Student Government, The National Constitution Center, Philadelphia Student Voices, The League of Woman Voters, Philadelphia Citizens for Children and Youth, the Committee of Seventy, the National Constitution Center, and the Philadelphia Home and School Association working together to encourage students to get informed, stay involved, and – if they are eligible – register and vote.  Your school is invited to take advantage of this opportunity at no cost.

    Citizenship Test
    (Grades 4-12)
Do your students know what it means to be American citizens? Do they have what it takes? Here is their chance to prove it! On this fun-filled adventure, students will learn about the rights and responsibilities of being a citizen, as well as about our country and its freedoms. Their day will conclude with the Be a Citizen Game Show, which will put their knowledge to the test to find out if they really have what it takes to be informed and active citizens.

Being an Active Citizen (Grades K- 3)
“A person’s a person, no matter how small.” – Dr. Seuss
Let your students’ voices be heard in this interactive program about ways that they can be active citizens at home, in school, at camp, and throughout their lives. Students will hear stories about children just like them who stood up for freedom and changed our country. Empowerment and inspiration are what this adventure is all about!

Bill of Rights Show (Grades 3-8)
Your students will learn more about the Bill of Rights and its creation in this fast paced, interactive show where they play the role of the first ten amendments. Students will meet Madison, Hamilton and Jefferson, and join in the debate about our basic freedoms. They will learn more about amendments that protect our rights today.

    Separation of Powers (Grades 3-8)
During this fun and energizing show, students will learn about the branches of government and how our Constitution limits government by separating power-a revolutionary idea! Students will take part in an educational game of tug-of-war among the three branches of government while they learn about the checks and balances in Articles I, II and III of the Constitution.

Growing Up, American Style (Grades 3-8)
Find out what it was like to grow up in different eras of American history. Students will be chosen to join in a costume runway show featuring traditional-style dress from historical periods while describing what home, school and work life was like for them. Visitors will also learn how often kids bathed, what they did during the day, and what rights they had.

Fourth of July Show (Grades 3-8)
The Fourth of July has always been celebrated with a bang! From protests to canons, flag waving to parades, and complete with explosive words and fiery demonstrations, the Independence Day Show takes an in depth look at this exciting celebration by exploring it over time from the very first words of independence to present day. This show explores the First Amendment while historically outlining Civil Rights groups of the past.

History Detectives Workshop: Artifacts from the 1800s and 1900s (Grades K-3, 4-8, 9-12)
Explore some amazing objects of the past and learn more about what life was like in America during the 1800s and 1900s. Your classroom will come to life as students use objects and documents as primary sources to explore the past and become history detectives. Workshops are custom tailored to meet your students’ needs and interests and to teach cross the curriculum.
